I’m a young person receiving support for a mental health issue

If you’re aged 18 or younger and receiving community mental health services from Essex County Council, one of our advocates might be able to support you. Among other things, this means more of a say in the care and treatment you receive, and making sure your voice is heard.

If…

You’re working with an advocate, they can help you prepare for important meetings. They can join you at these meetings so you get the input you want, and support you to ask questions and challenge people. They can help you to communicate with a range of professionals, from doctors and consultants to teachers and social workers, as well as make complaints if you want to.

If…

You’re a child or young person, you’re protected by a set of rights that almost every country around the world has agreed to. These include being protected from physical and mental mistreatment, knowing your rights, being able to give your opinion, and for adults to listen and take these opinions seriously.
